About PrestonPyle.com

What this space is

Welcome to PrestonPyle.com – a portal into The Windows of the World, a long‑form science‑fantasy series that mixes archaeological mystery, political intrigue and moral complexity. This Substack isn’t just a newsletter; it’s an archive, a field journal and a bridge between my novels, essays, and even poetry. Here you’ll find serialized chapters of my work, philosophical essays, and early looks at forthcoming volumes.

Who I am

I’m Preston Pyle, a Kansas‑born writer who blends geopolitics, physics, economics and philosophy into quiet, haunting fiction. I wrote the initial 323 000‑word draft of The Spiral Stair in about six months and then spent another six months cutting it down to a tighter 250 000 words. The concept for the book arrived in a rush; the rest has been slow, deliberate work – digging through histories, systems and myths to find the story’s bones. My background in business and technology informs my stories, but my focus is on people: what happens to them when structures collapse, power slips and memory erodes.

The books

The Windows of the World is a series set in worlds where quantum‑physics‑inspired powers meet archaeological mystery. The first volume, The Spiral Stair, drops readers into the volatile Prehanda Valley, where an Imperium officer named Atuma Harksgard loses control of his excavation – and of himself – as he becomes addicted to a local narcotic. As the dig reveals buried histories, the novel explores how power, memory and addiction entwine.

Future volumes will expand the series’ scope and geography. Each book will spiral into a larger narrative about time, empire and what survives us. When I’m not editing a manuscript, I’m sketching maps, writing short stories set in the same universe or reading about the real‑world physics and politics that inspire the fiction.

Why a Substack?

I wanted a place where readers could go deeper than a back‑of‑book blurb. This newsletter gives you:

  • Serialized chapters. You’ll get early looks at sections of the novels before they’re collected into the final volumes. These posts will include author’s commentary and design notes.

  • World‑building essays. Short explorations of cities like Harbor City and regions like the Prehanda Valley; dossiers on Imperium factions; and explanations of the science behind the magic.

  • Behind‑the‑scenes updates. Thoughts on the writing process, edits, maps and cover design. I share triumphs and frustrations – from cutting thousands of words to inventing new languages.

  • Community Q&A. I invite questions from readers and build future posts around the things you want to know. This series thrives on conversation.

How to get involved

If you’re curious about this world, subscribe to the newsletter. Start by reading the first chapter of The Spiral Stair, available for free to all subscribers. If the story pulls you in, consider purchasing the book or joining at a paid tier to support the work. Share your thoughts in comments; tell me which characters resonate and which mysteries keep you up at night. This Substack is as much yours as mine.

I’m grateful you’re here.
